Getting started
What is PixelShelf?
A game collection app for Android. It keeps every game you own in one library, physical and digital, on any platform, along with a wishlist, what you're playing now, stats about your collection and a dice roll for when you can't decide what to play. See all the features.
Which devices does it run on?
Android phones and tablets running Android 7.0 or newer. It's out now on Google Play.
How do I add a game?
Search for it by name, pick the platforms you own it on and whether each copy is physical, digital or cloud, then add it. The cover art and details are filled in for you, and you can edit any of them afterwards.
I can't find a game when I search for it
Try a shorter search, or the game's original title. Game details come from IGDB, a large public games database, so a very new or very obscure game may not be listed yet.
Still missing? Let us know which game it is.
Do I need an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for. Your library lives on your phone.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Your library, stats, wishlist and Roll the Dice all work without a connection. You need to be online to search for new games, download cover art and sync Xbox or Steam.
Backups
How do I back up my library?
Go to Settings > Data and Backup. From there you can:
- Export a backup file to your phone.
- Send Backup to... a cloud app or anywhere else your phone can share to.
- Turn on Automatic Backup, which saves a backup on a schedule to a place you choose, even with the app closed (Premium).
A full backup includes your cover art. A small backup leaves it out and downloads it again when you restore. Automatic Backup can make either, or both.
How do I restore a backup, or move to a new phone?
- On your old phone, make a backup with Export or Send Backup, somewhere you can reach from the new phone, such as Google Drive.
- Install PixelShelf on the new phone.
- Go to Settings > Data and Backup > Restore from Backup and pick the file.
Restoring replaces the library on that phone with the one in the backup.
Can I restore from the .csv export?
No. The .csv file is a spreadsheet of your library for looking at elsewhere, and it can't be imported back into PixelShelf. To keep a copy you can restore from, use Export, Send Backup or Automatic Backup.
Automatic backups to my cloud storage aren't running
Backups to Google Drive and other cloud storage need PixelShelf's battery use set to Unrestricted. Data and Backup shows a warning and a shortcut to the setting if it isn't.
Using Box? Free Box accounts can't take a single file over 250 MB, so a full backup of a big library may not upload there. Use a small backup instead.
Xbox and Steam
How do I link my Xbox account?
Xbox linking goes through OpenXBL, a free third-party service. Sign in there with your Xbox account, copy your OpenXBL API key, and paste it into Settings > Account Linking in PixelShelf.
OpenXBL is run independently of Microsoft and can sometimes be slow. If a sync takes a while or fails, try again a little later.
How do I link my Steam account?
- Get a Steam Web API key from steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey.
- In PixelShelf, go to Settings > Account Linking and enter the key with your Steam profile name. A full profile link or SteamID64 works too.
- In Steam, set your profile's Game details privacy to Public, or Steam won't share your games and playtime.
Is linking an account required?
No. Linking is optional and needs Premium. Everything else works with games you add yourself.
Your data
Where is my library stored?
On your phone. Your collection isn't uploaded anywhere unless you choose to back it up somewhere yourself. The privacy policy covers exactly what the app does and doesn't send.
Where does the game information come from?
Game details and cover art are provided by IGDB.com.
How do I delete everything?
Settings > Data and Backup > Delete Database & Reset deletes your whole library, cover art and settings, and disconnects any linked accounts. It can't be undone, so make a backup first if you might want it back.
